Package unit repairs

Replacing a package unit
A replacement gets a new level pad, properly sealed transitions to the ductwork, gas and electrical connections to code, and a permit and inspection. Several of the installs in our own job photos are new package units set on fresh pads.
Crawlspace ductwork matters
With a package unit, the ductwork under the house carries everything. Crushed, disconnected or uninsulated crawlspace ducts waste a lot of what the unit produces. We'll look while we're there.

What is a gas pack?
A gas pack is a packaged HVAC unit that holds an air conditioner and a gas furnace in one cabinet outside the house. Ductwork runs from the unit through the wall or foundation into the house, usually into a crawlspace.
Why would a house have a package unit instead of a split system?
Package units are common on homes with crawlspaces and no room inside for a furnace or air handler, including many older homes around Rock Hill and York. Everything sits outside, which saves indoor space.
Can a package unit be a heat pump?
Yes. Packaged heat pumps work the same way, with all components in one outdoor cabinet and electric heat strips for backup.
Can you replace a gas pack with a split system?
Sometimes, if there's a place inside for the furnace or air handler and the ductwork can be reworked. Usually a new package unit is the simpler and less expensive replacement.
